Nearly half of U.S. adults agree with the incorrect statement that consumption of infected chickens result in "bird flu" transmissions.
According to this 2005 poll commissioned by the Center for Consumer Freedom, 47% of U.S. adults agreed with the false statement that eating an infected chicken can result in avian influenza (“bird flu”) transmission.
This poll asked respondents, “Avian flu has been in the news recently. How do you believe a person gets infected with Avian flu? You can answer yes to multiple options.”

- Coming in contact with a live chicken that has Avian flu (54%)
- Eating an infected chicken (47%)
