This study examined the eating habits and food choices of young consumers and found them to consider taste as the most important factor in food selection.
Survey about eating habits and food choices of the 13-24 year-old consumer segment, who generally have a carefree attitude, enjoy junk food and “pigging out.”
Most youths in this age range eat according to their moods or what is served to them. 22% of females’ “watch” what they eat, compared to 7% of males.
The top deciding factors in food selection is:
- Taste (84%)
- Cost (53%)
- Portion size (30%)
- If food can be eaten on the go (16%)
- The activity they are doing at the time (15%)
- Who they are with at the time (10%)
65% of young adults try new foods all the time, including such items as pigs feet, alligator, etc.
25% try new foods “some” of the time, while 8% do not like to experiment with new foods at all.
