General interest in home-grown, organic, heirloom vegetables is on the rise, but consumers are also interested in vegetarian dishes to cut back on eating meat. Reduced meat consumption is healthy, economical, and environmentally responsible. According to this analysis of 435 million annual visits to Allrecipes.com along with survey results from previous Allrecipes.com, this study found that the top five motivations for cutting back on meat include:
- Health (75%)
- Cost (35%)
- Concern with obesity (32%)
- Better recipes available for meatless meals (25%)
- Environmental impact (19%)
During 2010, 32.8% of respondents said they ate less meat to improve their family’s diet.
