Factors Related To Hunting And Fishing Participation Among The Nation’s Youth
Includes a mixed-method approach involving focus groups and telephone surveys, but with an unknown number of youths. The study evaluates youths’ perceptions of hunting, fishing, whether they have shot a gun or a bow, etc. Also provides splits by male versus female respondents.
‘91% of American youths think it’s OK for boys to hunt and 88% think hunting is OK for girls.’
55% of youths think hunting is ‘a little cool’ or ‘very cool.’
41% of those surveyed had a high interest in wildlife and 50% had a medium interest in wildlife.
25% of respondents strongly agreed that ‘hunting animals for food is OK,’ 31% moderately agreed with it, 16% moderately disagreed with it, and 21% strongly disagreed with it.
Of those who had hunted, 56% said they liked it ‘a lot’ and 39% said they liked it ‘a little.’
58% of respondents said they hear both good and bad things about hunting in schools.
21% said they hear more good than bad about hunting and 11% said they hear more bad than good about it.
77% or respondents said fishing was ‘very cool’ or ‘a little cool.’
