Factors Related To Hunting And Fishing Participation Among Nation’s Youth

Nearly all U.S. youths had an interest in wildlife (91%), and 56% of youths believe that hunting for food is acceptable.
This journal article summarizes a research study conducted on the habits and attitude of U.S. youths toward hunting and fishing.
91% of youths surveyed had an interest in wildlife.
56% felt that hunting for food is acceptable, while 21% disagreed with hunting for food.
Of those who hunt, 56% like hunting “a lot” while 39% liked hunting “a little.” 58% have heard both good and bad things about hunting in school. 21% hear more good than bad, while 11% hear more bad than good.
15% had heard about hunting from teachers or other adults in the school. Of these respondents, 61% said that what they heard was good rather than bad.
