Wendy has announced plans to increase the quantity of their meat that comes from humane farming sources.
Wendy’s announces that it will give preferential treatment to pig and chicken product suppliers who improve their animal welfare standards.
Wendy’s currently obtains 10% of its pig products from suppliers who raise pigs outside of gestation stalls, but the company hopes to raise this to 20% by the year 2008.
Wendy’s also will be giving preferential treatment to chicken suppliers who explore and test “controlled atmosphere stunning” (CAS) systems, where chickens receive a gas/oxygen mix to anesthetize them before stunning.
