Consumers Seeking More Green And Organic Products
MamboTrack, a study by Mambo Sprouts Marketing, studied the buying habits of 1,000 “natural product” consumers and predicted their expenditures for the upcoming year. The survey found that consumers are willing to pay more for environmentally friendly products in 2008.
Despite a predicted decline in consumer spending for 2008 due to recent economic downturns in the housing market, energy costs, and tighter financing, most natural consumers are still willing to pay more for environmentally friendly products. 7 out of 10 consumers are willing to pay up to 20% more, while only 1 in 10 is unwilling to pay anything extra for “green” products and services.
Consumers are showing interest in green products and supporting businesses and retail stores that engage in environmentally friendly practices, with 73% indicating that it is important to do business with companies that are environmentally responsible. 60% of survey respondents consider price to be the deciding factor in where to shop, but 56% consider the selection of healthy organic products and 49% consider the availability of organic produce as key factors as well.
These consumers are most likely to seek out specifically “organic” options for the following product areas: produce (60%), dairy (54%), child/baby food products (50%), pet food (23%), and beer and wine (10%).
