Survey Says Raising Chickens Not Wanted in Courtenay

A survey has found that a majority of citizens in Courtenay are opposed to people raising chickens in their backyard.
A survey conducted among Courtenay, British Columbia residents finds that the majority of citizens are opposed to the raising of “backyard chickens” in the area.
With respect to potential legislation which would allow for the raising of chickens in residential zones, 61% of Courtenay city residents were opposed to the idea, while 39% were in favor of allowing backyard chickens.
Support of the practice was somewhat stronger on the west side of the city, while interest was minimal on the east side. No support greater than 50% was shown in any part of the city.
