Real Men Eat Meat, Or At Least Think They Should
A study by researchers from the Kellogg School of Management found that men are more likely than women to conform to gendered notions of food. In a series of experiments where men and women were asked to choose between “masculine” and “feminine” versions of foods, men were more likely to choose the masculine items, particularly when given extra time to make choices.
In a series of experiments, men and women were asked to choose between masculine and feminine foods (previously categorized). The results of these experiment showed that men were much more likely to choose items perceived as “masculine” over others, particularly given more time to make a choice. Red meat is typically considered a masculine food, while poultry and fish are considered more feminine. Method of preparation can also affect perceptions of food based on gender.
