Over 85% Of Schools In Taiwan Offer Vegetarian Meals
The results of a survey released by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education (MOE) reveals that around 86% of elementary, junior, and senior high schools in Taiwan have provided vegetarian lunches in an effort to promote healthier lifestyles and a better environment.
A total of 2,328 out of 3,517 public schools in Taiwan have offered vegetarian meals to at some time students, while an additional 676 schools have offered vegetarian meals at least once every two weeks or once a month. Further, 46 schools have offered vegetarian meals twice per week, and three schools had provided vegetarian options more than three days a week. Earlier in the year, only 34% of schools had offered vegetarian lunch options.
This recent promotion of vegetarian meal options is based on the Ministry of Education’s desire to promote healthier eating and to help reduce global warming.
