33% most likely to use Maryland State Forest for ‘walking, hiking, or nature activities,’ 19% for ‘picnicking,’ 15% for ‘hunting,’ 12% for ‘fishing,’ 8% for ‘bicycling,’ 2% ‘riding an off-road vehicle.’
82% of respondents said it was ‘very important’ for Maryland’s State Forests to provide for the protection of wildlife (77% for rural residents).
89% of respondents said it was ‘very important’ for Maryland’s State Forests to help provide clean water and air (83% for rural residents).
67% of respondents said it was ‘very important’ for Maryland’s State Forests to provide recreation and sightseeing (58% for rural residents).
17% of respondents said it was ‘very important (and 33% said it was ‘somewhat important’) for Maryland’s State Forests to provide land for hunting (24% for rural residents, 45% of rural residents said ‘somewhat important’).
4% of respondents said it was ‘very important’ for Maryland’s State Forests to provide timber for logging and wood products (8% for rural residents).
21% of respondents (45% of rural residents) feel hunting should be ‘permitted in most Maryland State Forests,’ 35% (31% of rural residents) feel it should be ‘restricted to about half of Maryland’s State Forests,’ and 34% (17% or rural residents) feel it should be ‘banned in all Maryland State Forests.’
