Singles’ Attitudes On Dating And Food Consumption
The results of this survey included several implications for vegetarians and vegans. For example, 30% of people who eat meat said they would refuse to date a vegetarian or vegan, whereas only 4% of vegetarians said they would not date someone who ate meat. Social issues for vegetarians are a concern for animal advocates, as they may have the potential to discourage some people from becoming or remaining vegetarian or vegan.
In this study by TODAY.com and Match.com, 4,000 singles completed an online survey regarding their attitudes to dating and dining. While 90% of single men considered the traditional dinner date to be the ideal first date, 30% of people who eat meat said they would not date a vegetarian or vegan. In contrast, only 4% of vegetarians said they would not date someone who ate meat.
Fifty-six percent of participants said they enjoyed when their date offered them a bite of their food. A willingness to try new foods was important to 66% of participants, and 56% of respondents said they would not date someone who was picky when ordering. Additionally, 25% of participants claimed they would take steak over sex if they had to. These findings imply that vegetarian and vegan singles may encounter difficulties when dating, especially if they are perceived by others to be unadventurous or picky eaters.
