The Effect Of Nature Documentaries On Students’
This study addressed the affect of viewing nature documentaries on the environmental sensitivity of students. Specifically, students were observed to determine if exposure to a documentary on insects would increase their level of environmental sensitivity toward these animals, compared with students who had not seen the documentary.
The results of this study suggest that exposure to nature documentaries has a positive effect on student sensitivities; non-verbal, less conventional documentaries appear to be more effective on the development of environmental knowledge and attitudes than conventional documentaries. The non-conventional documentaries were also found to be equally effective in changing attitudes and beliefs among students.
In general, students were more emotionally affected by exposure to the documentaries than they were educated or enriched with facts.
