Why Is 13 Good Luck For Animals And Advocates?
Let me tell you why 2013 will be a good year for animal advocates. In most western cultures, the number “13” is considered bad luck. But not so in China, where (in Mandarin) the number 13 often translates to “definite life” or “definite living.” Can a billion people be wrong? As an animal advocate, you’ve chosen a “definite life.” And Faunlytics has definite plans in 2013 to help you make significant advancements for non-human animals. Read below about how Animal Tracker, our brand new veg recidivism study, and Humane Trends will bring you information to transform the future for animals.
Let me tell you why 2013 will be a good year for animal advocates.

Be sure to stay tuned for more exciting news this spring that we’re working on right now. Together let’s make this more than a lucky year for animals — let’s make it a year of definite progress for animals!
Sincerely,
Che Green
Faunalytics Executive Director

Five Years of Tracking Opinions and Behavior… and Counting
Where are we making progress for animals in the U.S.? What areas are showing the least amount of change? What are the people you’re trying to influence actually thinking?
Only Faunalytic’s “Animal Tracker” research gives you the answers. This unique, multi-year study captures how adults 18 years of age and older think about and act on animal-related issues. It includes important issues such as knowledge of animal protection topics, the perceived impact of animal advocates, and support for the overarching goals of the animal protection movement.
Advocates in the know are using the Animal Tracker to craft potent strategies to move people. They have used our interactive graphing tool nearly 20,000 times to better understand different target audiences and to get the latest in public opinion on animal issues. You can see data over time and by different variables such as age, education, and region of the U.S. There’s no better place to begin your exploration of attitudes and behaviors towards animals than with the Animal Tracker. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the graphing tool! Share it with friends and colleagues to help them learn what they need enhance their efforts for animals.
To continue providing this crucial movement resource, Faunalytics is seeking sponsors to support year six of the research, scheduled for this spring. Your organization can take advantage of an exclusive opportunity to ask your own questions, access more detailed survey results, and use the results publicly with the media, with members, and in reports, etc. As a sponsor, you will be joining a group of fellow organizations and individual advocates that understand the power of knowledge and research. An investment ranging from $500 to $1,000 is all it takes to bring these important benefits to your work (the actual cost depends on the number of sponsors in 2013).
To learn more about sponsoring Animal Tracker in 2013, please contact Che Green of the Faunalytics at (206) 905-9887 or [email protected].
To make a smaller contribution in support of the Animal Tracker, please use our online donation form and select “Animal Tracker Study” from the “Program” drop-down box.
If you’re not able to support the study right now, please be sure to share the graphing tool with your colleagues, friends, and fellow animal advocates!
Study of Lapsed Vegetarians Moves Forward!
Veg*n advocates work hard to introduce people to the joys of plant-based eating. It’s exciting to see new veg*ns in the news and in our own social circles. But most of us have had the disappointing experience of encountering someone who used to be veg*n. For a variety of reasons, not everyone sticks to their new way of eating.
Businesses know that attracting new customers can cost eight times as much as retaining existing customers. That’s why banks sometimes waive fees for good customers or restaurants do something special for repeat diners. For veg advocates, people new to plant-based eating are our customers. We want to know what will keep them satisfied and coming back for more.
That’s why Faunalytics is so excited to announce that we have received commitments to fully fund our study of current and lapsed veg*ns. If you’ve ever wondered how many people return to consuming meat and other animal products after becoming veg*ns – and their reasons for doing so – then this study will answer your questions.
Faunalytic’s in-depth survey will utilize a very large sample size to examine both current and ex-veg*ns in great depth. The results will help animal advocates be more effective by giving them the insight they need to reach more potential veg*ns and help those people stick with a diet free of animal products for the long-term.
Our sincere thanks to everyone who supported this study and we look forward to sharing the results when they’re available!
What is the Status of Animals in the U.S.? Find out at HumaneTrends.com
How doe
s the U.S. score when it comes to animal protection? Sadly – but not surprisingly – there’s a lot of room for improvement.
Faunalytic’s HumaneTrends.com is a website where we update a diverse set of important indicators that together provide a barometer of the status of animal protection in the U.S. We “score” the indicators in each of four issue areas covering companion animals, farmed animals, animals used in science, and wildlife, plus a category covering general indicators.
The indicator scores currently range from a low of “4” for Farmed Animals to a high of “47” for Companion Animals (on a 100-point scale). Weighing each issue area equally, the overall score for the United States is “34.”
We recently updated the indicators relating to animals used in science and we plan to update all other categories in 2013. The Humane Trends website – which tracks a wide variety of indicators from different sources – is a useful complement to our Animal Tracker (see above), an annual public opinion survey. Stay tuned for more updates by visiting HumaneTrends.com!
Just the Beginning
These are just a few of the exciting plans we have in store for 2013, in addition to providing our current customized research services and free resources such as HumaneSpot.org, where we add 4-5 new research entries each week. In the coming months, we will be increasing our capacity to help animal advocates be as effective as possible with some exciting additions and changes.
If you share this goal, please make a donation to Faunalytics today. Remember, if you give $50 or more by February 15th, you’ll receive a free copy of the book Animal Impact!
