Companion Animals In Yurts And Cabins
This survey by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department investigated whether park users wanted to allow campers to bring companion animals, namely dogs, into yurts and cabins. The department conducted both online and phone surveys and more than 10,000 people responded to the surveys.
At the time of the survey there was a prohibition on companion animals in the 250 yurts and cabins maintained by Oregon’s state parks system. 81% of respondents to the online survey who had companion animals disagreed with this prohibition, while 15% agreed. The results from the phone survey followed the same trend of the online survey for companion animal owners but were less extreme — 59% disagreed with the policy, while 30% agreed.
Among people who did not own companion animals, the online survey found a majority (69%) also disagreed with the prohibition on companion animals, though over one quarter (27%) agreed with it. Among non companion animal-owning respondents to the phone survey, more agreed with the restriction than disagreed — 40% agreed while only 28% disagreed.
