Nearly 80% Say They Don’t Want To Trade Quality For Price
Despite rising prices, 79% of U.S. adults do not want to compromise on the quality of the food they buy and 70% continue to buy the same amount of natural and organic foods as they always have. However, rising costs are causing some consumers to vary their shopping behaviors.
According to this study prepared for Whole Foods Market, 74% of U.S. adults purchase natural or organic foods; 20% say that more than one-fourth of all groceries purchased are natural and/or organic. In addition, 67% of adults prefer to buy natural and/or organic foods over conventional foods, if prices are comparable.
Two-thirds would like to find ways to buy these foods within their budget; 84% have somehow changed the way they shop for groceries as the result of higher food prices. Survey results were similar across geographic locations. To save money, 43% of adults are preparing more meals at home, using coupons (40%), or going out of their way to look for lower-cost items (37%) as a result of higher cost foods.
