This survey examining equine health was conducted by the Blue Cross charity website as part of the National Equine Welfare Council’s ten year strategy focusing on the improvement of horse welfare in the United Kingdom. Lameness was the most frequently cited horse health problem, as indicated by 11% of surveyed horse owners.
The most common veterinary problems afflicting British horses include lameness (11%), being overweight (9%), or being underweight (8%). Other health issues include skin disease (5%), wounds (4%), laminitis (3%), and colic (2%).
