AH And LA’s 2010 Lodging Survey Covers Many Green Subject Areas
This survey of more than 8,500 U.S. hotels examined trends in 14 green-related areas, including energy conservation, toxins, and also hotels with vegetarian menu choices.
With respect to vegetarian dining, according to this study fewer hotels are now offering vegetarian menu choices — 37% in 2010, compared with 48% in 2008. The most likely type of hotel to offer vegetarian food choices include luxury hotels (86%) and “upper upscale” hotels (70%).
Engagement in green certification programs is a prevalent trend among hotels. By segment, participation includes:
- Luxury (71%)
- Upper upscale (64%)
- Upscale (47%)
- Mix with F&B (43%)
- Independent (40%)
By location, resorts (59%) are the most likely to pursue certification, while the least likely are interstate hotels (32%).
