Sales of fresh meat are are rising, as are those of packaged meat.
According to Nielsen Company executive Todd Hale, economic concerns are benefiting sales of fresh meat more than any other edible product as more U.S. consumers are choosing to cook at home.
For the year ending September 5, 2009, sales of fresh meat have benefited more than any other edible product, increasing by 9% in dollar-value growth via major retail channels. The second leading category was packaged meats, sales of which increased by 5%.
This growth is likely fueled by the trend toward more at-home dining, as consumers continue to be concerned about the economy and their personal finances.
