Male animals are predominately chosen after female animals for usage in biomedical research experiments, which could have noteworthy implications for the health of women.

A study of several surveys undertaken during the 1990s found a significant bias toward the use of male animals in biomedical research experiments.

Researchers examined several surveys from the 1990s, finding the use of a disproportionate number of male animals in experiments for numerous diseases, and concluding that the frequent use of male animals in research may have significant implications in healthcare for women.
