Measures Iowans attitudes relating to large-scale hog farms, including humane treatment of animals, environmental concerns, and purchase factors for humanely raised animals.
74% of Iowans believe that a state-wide moratorium on new confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs) is needed while the effects of corporate industrial operations.
89% of Iowans believe local control of hog farm issues is important.
94% of Iowans believe factory hog farm issues are important.
61% are opposed to permitting meat packers from owning hogs.
64% are in favor of changing Iowa law so that counties can prohibit large hog farms.
73% agree that Iowa voters should be concerned about the humane treatment of animals raised for food.
77% say that they are likely to buy pork products from companies whose suppliers raise and process their hogs only under humane and environmentally sound conditions. 75% feel that farm animals were well treated by most family farmers in the past before the industrial hog corporations took over.
The largest issues associated with large scale hog farms were specified as “smell and pollution” (63%), and “the effect on small family farms” (61%).
