According to a survey of 1000 American adults conducted for Animal Rights International, 93% of Americans oppose farm animal suffering. Nine out of ten respondents specifically disapprove of the confinement of veal calves, pigs and ends.
With respect to protection of farm animals from cruelty, 91% assigned responsibility to the USDA, 82% to the meat and egg industries and 58% to the restaurants and supermarkets, although 20% felt that the meat and egg industries could improve their own practices.
