Compass Group Launches Landmark “Flexitarian” Eating Initiative
The world’s largest food service company, Compass Group, announced the launch of their “Flexitarian” eating campaign, developed jointly with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). The campaign promotes incorporating healthier, more sustainable, and more humane eating in the group’s 8,500 U.S. corporate and academic food service cafeterias across the country.
To promote a “flexitarian” style of eating, the Compass Group has begun expansion of the variety and supply of meat-free options among their 8,500 food service cafeterias around the country. They will now showcase meatless foods such as veggie burgers, burritos, pastas, and stir fries in an effort to promote healthier and more socially conscious dietary habits.
The Compass Group has a history of concern for animal welfare issues. In 2007, the company switched all of its shell eggs to cage-free eggs for all U.S. clients.
