According to the results of this survey of Portuguese nationals:

- 2% never eat meat, 20% eat meat occasionally
- 1% never eat fish, 23% eat fish occasionally.
- Those in the 55-65 age group are the ones who eat the least meat and dairy.
- 30,000 Portuguese are actual vegetarians, those who consume no meat or fish.
- Women eat less meat and eggs than men, though they are heavier dairy consumers.
- Central Lisbon and Northern coast are the regions with less meat and egg consumption.
