AKC Survey Finds Dogs Who Chew Up Household Items Are Most Likely To End Up On Santa’s Naughty List
A survey from the American Kennel Club (AKC) examines holiday traditions and finds that the family dog plays largely into these practices by a majority of respondents.
According to the results of this holiday survey, 15% of respondents said that the family dog is most likely to end up on “Santa’s naughty list” for chewing up items around the house. The family dog (6%) is also the least likely member in the household to get coal in his stocking, as the most likely recipients would be the respondents themselves (46%), followed by spouses (31%), and their kids (16%).
In addition, 38% of respondents said they spent the most money on their dog over the holidays, followed by kids (36%), and spouse (26%). Moreover, if holiday spending required cut-backs this year, 55% said they would spend less money on their spouse rather than their dog. Gifts for other people’s dogs also ranked highly in importance among respondents. More than three-fourths (78%) plan on buying gifts for other family members’ dogs, 66% plan on buying for friends’ dogs, and 15% plan on buying for their dog’s friends at the dog park.
In other findings, 91% of respondents include their dog on their family holiday card, 60% have taken their dog to see Santa and get his picture taken, 61% make their dog a special holiday meal, and 42% said getting a seat at the dinner table would be on their dog’s wish list to Santa.
