RSPCA: Poll Shows Two Out Of Three Dog Owners Back New Dog License
The results of a survey commissioned by the RSPCA say that 66% of dog owners would support a license scheme. Furthermore, 76% of those asked said that a dog license should be enforced in England to assist with companion animal overpopulation problems.
The findings of this research study clearly show that an affordable and well-enforced dog licensing program could contribute funds for many animal welfare issues. Proponents of such a scheme suggest that a reduction in license fees could apply for more responsible dog owners, like those who have their companion animals neutered.
Health costs associated with dog attacks on people in England for the year 2009 were estimated to be 3.3 million British pounds. Attacks on livestock were valued at 2.2 million British pounds for the same time period, and costs from traffic accidents involving dogs in Britain during 2008 were valued at 14.6 million British pounds.
