Quiznos To Implement New Animal Welfare Policy

Quiznos is starting to provide food from suppliers that have higher animal welfare standards in their products.
The U.S.-based fast food sandwich chain Quiznos has adopted a new animal welfare policy regarding source of the eggs, pork, and turkey products sourced by the company.
Under the new policy, Quiznos will favor suppliers of higher animal welfare products, including cage-free chickens, crate-free hogs, and turkeys killed by controlled atmosphere stunning. Currently, only 4% of Quiznos’ egg purchases are cage-free and this number is estimated to grow to about 10% in 5 years. The company sources 1% of its pork products from crate-free environments, to reach 15% by 2012. Quiznos will also purchase 5% of its turkeys from suppliers who use controlled atmosphere stunning by 2010.
