A majority (75%) of British consumers have favourable attitudes towards farmers.
A survey commissioned by the National Farmers Union found that 75% of British consumers have a favorable attitude toward farmers, an increase of 7% from 2005; 86% believe farming will be more important than ever in the future due to food quality, security, animal welfare, and other issues.
In other findings, 52% of consumers think that farmers should grow crops for biofuels, while 17% do not think that genetically modified (GM) crops should be grown in Britain. However, more than half of survey respondents (52%) said that their trust in farmers would not be undermined if they came out in favor of GM crops.
