North Dakota Voters Want Felony-Level Penalties For Cruelty To Companion Animals
North Dakota does not have any felony-level penalties for cruelty to animals. The Humane Society of the United States commissioned a survey of North Dakota voters to determine how much support there would be for felony-level penalties for cruelty to companion animals. There was overwhelming support for making felony-level penalties for such crimes.
Forty-one percent of respondents would “strongly vote yes” in favor of felony-level penalties for cruelty to companion animals. In all, 63% indicated support for such penalties. Seventeen percent would oppose such penalties, and only 8% indicated very strong opposition, indicating they would “strongly vote no” in opposition to such a measure.
