Hunting Puts Park Users In Cross-Hairs, Rangers Maintain
The New South Wales government is considering opening up 79 of its national parks to recreational hunting. This survey asked 292 park staff their opinion about allowing hunting in these parks. There was an overwhelming lack of support for allowing hunting with most feeling hunting would put both themselves and park users at risk.
The New South Wales government is considering opening 79 of its national parks to recreational hunting. The Public Service Association surveyed park employees regarding their opinions about allowing hunting.
Of the park staff surveyed:
- Over half indicate they have already seen signs of unauthorized hunting in the parks
- 96% believe hunting will put park users at risk
- 86% believe hunting will have a negative effect on native species
- 83% believe hunting will put them at personal risk
