Czechs Are Not Supportive Of Fur
This research, which polled Czech people, shows that the majority of the Czech population does not agree with the use of fur in fashion and the killing of animals for fur. 68 % of the respondents agree that fur farming should be banned.
The poll concerning mostly (but not exclusively) the attitude of the Czech population towards fur was carried out in May 2013.
1062 respondents answered questions in a standardized questionnaire and the data are representative of the population of the Czech Republic over 15 years.
Main results:
- Nearly 80 % of the respondents think that today’s society could do without fur in fashion.
- 69% do not agree with killing of animals for fur. 68 % wish for fur farming to be banned.
- The majority of the Czech society (about 75 % ) is aware of the information deficit when it comes to welfare of animals on fur farms, in circuses, or laboratories.
- 55 % of Czech citizens would agree with a ban on animal testing of household products.
“We find the results pleasing as they show that the Czech society is not supportive of fur fashion at all. We can see from the data that people think we do not need fur. It’s also important that nearly 70 % of Czech citizens agree that fur farming should be banned in the Czech Republic. This is what we are trying to achieve through our campaign called “Against the Hair” (Proti srsti),” says Lucie Moravcová, the chairwoman of the Freedom for Animals organization. She adds: “The data also show that the Czech society lacks information about the lives of both animals on fur farms and in laboratories and circuses. This surely is a challenge for animal rights activists and there is a lot of work to be done.”
