Towards An Ethical Framework For Animal-Based Attractions
The public has long criticized the use of animals in the entertainment industry. This paper presents a discussion of animal rights in the hospitality and tourism industry and proposes ethical guidelines.
There are clear indications in the hospitality and tourism industry for the need to adopt practices that emphasize animal welfare. Growing public awareness, changing public opinion, and the influence of the animal rights’ movement are all factors compelling the industry to undergo such changes. In general, the authors suggest that animal attractions should handle animals in a way that combines entertainment, education, and welfare concerns.
