Survey Results On Farmers, Ranchers And Consumers
The U.S. Farmers & Rancher’s Alliance conducted a national survey of U.S. adults, including 2,417 consumers and 1,002 farmers and ranchers. The survey addresses rancher/farmer perceptions of consumers, issues of importance to consumers, and attitudes toward farming practices. Consumers indicate they know little about animal practices, but that animal welfare should be a priority of farmers and ranchers.
Survey Highlights:
- Consumers were asked about which topics they received the most conflicting or confusing information; how livestock and poultry animals are cared for ranked in the top five.
- When asked what should be prioritized by those who raise and grow food, how livestock is cared for ranked #2 among consumers, while the way that pesticides are used ranked #1.
- 86% of ranchers/farmers believe that consumers know either “very little” or nothing at all about modern ranching and farming practices.
