Steady Decline In Use Of Animals For Lab Testing In Israel
According to Israel’s National Council for Experimentation on Animal Subjects, the group that oversees animals used in research for the Ministry of Health, animal experimentation has been declining in Israel since 2007. In 2010, 286,000 animals were used in experiments, down 9% from 2009.
In 2007, the height of animal experimentation in Israel, 340,000 animals were used in experiments. By 2010 that number declined to 286,000 animals. In 2010, 43.5% of experiments were for “basic science research,” 42.5% for “health and medicine research,” 11% for “testing/manufacture of products,” and 3% for “educational and instructional purposes.”
