Public Opinion On U.K. Milk Marketing And Dairy Cow Welfare
This 2007 research study sought to assess consumer awareness of dairy production methods used in the United Kingdom (U.K.), including welfare issues and recognition of “quality assurance” logos. Half of respondents gave U.K. dairy animal welfare a positive rating, although recognition of quality assurance logos was limited.
In general, recognition of individual animal welfare logos was poor among consumers; 75% of respondents said they do not intentionally look for products with these logos. However, overall perception of animal welfare in the dairy industry was relatively positive, including views of appropriate feeding, good stockmanship, space, freedom to roam, and cleanliness.
Other specific findings:
- 68% would like more information on food production.
- 93% say they would pay more for good dairy animal welfare.
