Preliminary Survey Results (For Circus Study)
Asks Seattle voters whether or not they favor a ban or restrictions on the display of wild or exotic animals in the city, and to evaluate support for a number of positioning statements supporting and opposing wild/exotic animal acts.
One third of Seattle voters are in favor of animal rights and support the ban of exotic and wild animals in the city.
66% feel that there are more important things than the city to worry about. 56% feel that banning exotic animals is not important, while 24% believe that it is important. 49% believe that there are enough regulations to protect the health and welfare of circus animals, while 24% feel there are not enough.
37% feel favorably toward animal rights activists while 45% feel unfavorably; 37% are favorable toward PETA while 29% are unfavorable. 78% feel that the circus is a wholesome and safe place to take children, while 17% disagree. 74% feel that animals are an essential part of the circus while 23% disagree. 55% are favorable toward the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus while 26% are unfavorable. 55% believe that the animals in the Ringling Brothers Circus are treated well, while 20% believe they are not treated well. 66% agree that they do not need the government to tell us whether or not they should go to the circus, and that families can decide for themselves. 36% disagreed with this.
