Poll Shows Support For Citizen Management Of Grizzly Bears
Evaluates opinions regarding a proposed grizzly restoration project, including increased or decreased support for having citizens manage the project (designed to promote citizen management).
More Idaho and Montana citizens support than oppose restoring grizzly bears to the Bitterroot ecosystem, and that support increases significantly under a plan for citizen management of grizzly restoration. Support for the proposal with a local citizen committee with management authority, bear relocation, no additional restrictions for bear protection and costs capped at $250,000 stood at 62%, and without it, support stood at 46%.
The chief reason given by those opposing grizzly restoration was danger to humans from bears.
