This article discusses the common plan designed by environmental advocates and global warming experts to promote greater action on global warming.

This document summarizes the collaborative work of global warming experts and environmental advocates as they combine resources and conduct research in support of a “Common Message Platform” to identify shared ideas and concepts about global warming over the long term.

The following points present the paper’s recommended approach to promote greater action on global warming:

  1. Use the current economic and energy context to develop lasting support for addressing global warming.
  2. Emphasize the role of “too much carbon” in creating global warming and frame solutions in terms of managing carbon.
  3. Emphasize a broader, more concrete picture of what it means for climate to change.
  4. State that we are at a Crossroads, a moment of choice.
  5. Balance discussions of problems and impacts with a vivid picture of the collective actions we can and will take.
  6. Foster a new relationship to the problem by connecting the issue with supporters’ identities.
