Attitudes Of Romanian Companion Animal Caretakers Towards Sterlization Of Their Animals
A study of Romanian companion animal owners found gender-biased attitudes toward the sterilization of their companion animals, emerging only when the gender of the animal was considered. Romanian men more frequently disagreed with the neutering of male companion animals compared with Romanian women, although no gender distinctions were found with respect to the spaying of female companion animals.
The attitudes of 312 Romanian companion animal caretakers of non-sterilized companion animals were surveyed prior to the implementation of a companion animal management program in Transylvania. Based on this data, researchers found evidence of a gender-biased attitude among companion animals caretakers toward the sterilization of their own companion animals where the sex of the animals was considered. Romanian men disagreed more frequently than Romanian women with the neutering of male companion animals. This gender-based difference in opinion was not present with respect to the spaying of female companion animals.
