Jessica earned her PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where her research focused on animal subjectivity in Russian and Eastern European Fiction. In addition to her academic work, she actively volunteers in dog rescue and at a farmed animal sanctuary. She is passionate about using her pedagogical, research, and communication skills to increase awareness about animal and environmental issues.
