Dog Bites In Amarillo, Texas
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 4 million people in the U.S. are bitten annually by dogs. About 60% of dog bite victims are children under age 12. From January to May, 2009, 240 dog bites were reported in Amarillo, Texas, while 186 were reported during this same time period in 2008.
The majority of dog bites reported in these Amarillo statistics are from pit bulls. In 2008, a total of 500 dog bites were reported in the area, down from the 623 bites reported in 2007.
According to local animal control statistics, 6,309 animals (primarily dogs) have been euthanized in Amarillo since October 2008, representing a significant decrease from the 11,200 reported euthanizations from October 2007 to October 2008.
