A summary of various sources about public opinion of pet and animal cloning, has concluded that a majority of U.S. public opposes the cloning of animals including companion and livestock animals.

Hosted by the Center for Genetics and Society, this compilation presents a summary of public opinion about pet and animal cloning from various sources including Gallup, Time/CNN, FOX News, etc. Overall, a majority of the U.S. public opposes the cloning of companion animals.

This collection of public opinion surveys shows that the cloning of companion animals is generally unpopular among the American public. Various survey results from 1997-2004 are summarized.

Pet Cloning (Approval/Disapproval):

  • ORC (2/2004) – (13%/80%)
  • FOX (2/2002) – (12%/84%)
  • Fox (4/2001) – (16%/79%)

Animal Cloning (Approval/Disapproval):

  • Gallup (5/2004) – (32%/64%)
  • Gallup (5/2003) – (29%/68%)
  • Gallup (5/2002) – (29%/66%)
  • ABC (8/2001) – (37%/59%)
  • Gallup (5/2001) – (32%/64%)
  • Time/CNN ( 2/2001) – (29%/67%)
  • Time/CNN (2/1997) – (28%/66%)

The Fox News polls also showed similar sentiment regarding the cloning of endangered species and livestock (Approval/Disapproval):

  • Endangered species (2/2002) – (29%/64%)
  • Endangered species (4/2001) – (32%/61%)
  • Livestock (2/2002) – (23%/71%)
  • Livestock (4/2001) – (27%/66%)
