Welcome to our study on compensation practices in the farmed animal advocacy movement! This study is being conducted in partnership with Culture Canopy, a people and culture consultancy that provides human resources support to animal protection organizations.
Purpose of the Study:
1) To create a compensation benchmarking tool that will enable farmed animal advocacy organizations to benchmark their compensation practices against industry standards.
2) To understand the potential salary disparities that exist in our movement and develop strategies to address them.
What Your Involvement Will Include:
If your organization agrees to participate in this study, then the Executive Director or Operations Director (or equivalent) will be asked to do the following:
- Fill out and upload a spreadsheet with the salaries and benefits of your employees.
- Complete a 5-minute survey about your organization and compensation strategies.
- Distribute a 5-minute survey on our behalf to your employees that will investigate whether salaries differ by demographic traits.
Benefits of Participating:
You will receive a $100 donation and early access to the report. Your participation will also help us develop a compensation benchmarking tool that will benefit the entire movement.
Salary data benefits employers by providing the edge they need to provide competitive offers and retain talent. Salary data also supports employees by highlighting any potential wage gaps between people of different genders, races or ethnicities, and other identities that should be addressed.
Confidentiality:
All data collected during the study will be kept CONFIDENTIAL and will only be accessible to the research team at Faunalytics and Culture Canopy. The raw dataset from this study will never be made public and organizations will remain ANONYMOUS in future publications.
We also do NOT ask for employee names, and their salary data will NOT be shared with employers.

Getting Started
To complete this study, we ask the Operations Director or Executive Director to:
- Complete a worksheet with your organization’s compensation data by downloading it here. Once completed, you will be asked to upload the completed worksheet within the organization survey below.
- Culture Canopy is on hand to support you in filling out this data sheet in case anything is not clear. You can see an example of how to fill out this worksheet on their webpage or contact [email protected] for support.

- Towards the end of the organization survey, you will be asked to upload the worksheet within the survey.
- Please send this email to your employees asking them to participate in our employee survey. You’re welcome to copy the template or modify the language. And remember to complete the employee survey yourself!
After you submit the worksheet, your organization will receive a $100.00 USD donation in appreciation of your time spent participating in this study.
